From writing papers, creating brochures, graphing lines and managing databases, your students can do it all on Microsoft Office!

Typing Programs

Type to Learn Jr.learntotypejr.JPGType To Learn Jr. is a program that is focused on teaching students inK-2 to type. It is specially designed for the small hands and fingers of younger students, and it includes three activities for students to complete.

A little more advanced than Type to Learn Jr., Type to Learn 3 is geared for grades 4-8. Students have to complete time travel missions that help teach them to type. Involving 6 new activities and 25 lessons, students will have a blast learning to type with this program.

Photo Story
photostory.jpgWith Microsoft Photo Story, your students can create a slideshow of photos, including music, narration, special effects, and titles/captions. This is a free download through Microsoft, but can only be used on Windows machines! Students can create photo stories individually, in groups, or even as a class activity!

Audacity is an easy-to-use sound recording software that is great mainly for podcasting and fluency. Recoding plays, reader's theater, and students practicing reading is quick and then playing back the .wav file lets the student really hear inflection, volume, pronunciation, etc. Save files to your teacher web page to share with parents!

Tux Painttuxpaint.pngGreat for PK-6, Tux Paint is a wonderful program for students to use to create drawings and pictures. Tux Paint is a "kid-friendly" program that allows students to draw with different types of brushes, stamps, and text. Teachers can add more stamps and pictures for students to use to create their masterpieces. It is a free download, available for Windows, Mac, & Linux.

Gimpgimp.JPGGIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.







Global Studies

Google Earth is a free, downloadable application that works as a browser for all sorts of information on Earth. It uses satellite imagery to grab, spin, pan, tilt and zoom down to any place on Earth. Students canexplore every corner of the globe, measure distances, create their own virtual tours, and share their tourswith others. You can also create and download layers of information and view them in geographic context.
